Emergency Preparedness and Fire Safety Workshop
Alameda County Fire Department
Become a Prepared San Leandro Community Member!

Families or loved ones may not be together in an emergency, so it is important to plan in advance. Attend this highly interactive workshop to learn how to be better prepared as an individual or family. Topics will include what to do before, during and after an earthquake. Discussions will be on how to build an emergency kit and what items should be included and the proper way to store it. The workshop will also include fire prevention topics such as exit drills in the home, the importance of smoke alarms, kitchen fire safety and how to use a fire extinguisher.

Fireworks Ban in Effect in San Leandro

The City reminds residents and visitors that the setting off of fireworks within city limits, even those considered "safe and safe," is against the law. Anyone caught making, selling or using fireworks within San Leandro or anyone who allows fireworks to be set off on their property will be cited and may be required to pay large fines. If you see anyone using illegal fireworks, call the San Leandro Police Department at 577-2740.

City Seeks Input on Climate Plan

The City has posted a survey online to gather input from the San Leandro community on the types of actions to be included in the City's Climate Action Plan, currently under development. The survey takes just a few minutes. Click here to take the survey. For more information, contact Sustainability Coordinator Sally Barros at (510) 577-3458.

Major Program Cuts Included in 2009-10 Budget

The San Leandro City Council adopted the 2009-2010 City of San Leandro budget at their regular business meeting on June 1. The new budget includes 15 percent cuts in most departments and an overall cut in staffing of 50 full-time equivalent positions to accommodate a significant projected General Fund revenue shortfall. The 2009-2010 budget is part of a three-year effort that seeks to phase reductions over time. The budget includes service reductions for public safety, City libraries, recreation programs, civic celebrations, emergency preparedness and more. See the proposed budget to learn more. For more information, call (510) 577-3389.
