SAN LEANDRO, CA: At last night’s City Council meeting, Mayor Pauline Russo Cutter announced that the City of San Leandro will be hosting a number public events and activities throughout the month of June in celebration of Pride month. These efforts will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new rainbow-themed crosswalk located in downtown San Leandro, which will be hosted by the Mayor and members of the City Council. The event will take place on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at 5:00 p.m., at the corner of Parrott Street and Washington Avenue. The City of San Leandro invites the public to attend and join in the celebrations.

WHAT:          Rainbow Crosswalk Ribbon-Cutting

WHEN:          Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at 5:00 p.m.

WHERE:       Downtown San Leandro, at Parrott Street and Washington Avenue

At the June 3rd City Council meeting, Mayor Cutter also issued a proclamation declaring June 2019 as Pride Month and honoring the Lavender Seniors of the East Bay for their many years of effort in supporting the LGBTQ community. The exterior lighting system at City Hall will be displayed with rainbow-colored lighting each night throughout the month in honor of the celebrations.

“It is important to welcome and celebrate inclusivity in San Leandro, especially recognizing the diversity of people that make up our community,” said Mayor Cutter. “When I was first elected 20 years ago, it was to proactively address LGBTQ issues in our schools. Now, more than a decade later, it’s amazing to witness the progress we have made, and it makes me proud to see so many people coming together to celebrate as a kind, caringcommunity.”

In addition to the above activities, a pride flag bearing rainbow colors will be flown at Root Park, located at1033 East 14th Street in downtown San Leandro throughout the month of June. Mayor Cutter has also directed the Pride flag to be flown in front of City Hall on June 29-30, during the last weekend of the month to coincide with San Francisco’s Pride Parade celebrations.
