The City of San Leandro announced that the lottery application period for units within the affordable senior rental development currently under construction across from the San Leandro BART Station at 528 Juana Avenue (at Carpentier Street), will be open from March 12 through March 23, 2018. BRIDGE Housing Corporation, the non-profit project developer, recently named this new development La Vereda (“The Path”) Senior Apartments.
La Vereda will contain 85 affordable apartments in both one- and two-bedroom configurations. One household member must be at least 62 years of age, while all other household members must be at least 45 years of age (unless a spouse or disabled dependent). Monthly rents will range from approximately $538 to $1,106. In 2016, the City of San Leandro provided a $1 million development loan for the project, which helped leverage other public and private funds that ultimately covered the $39.3 million total project cost.
“I encourage any income-qualified local seniors who are seeking housing in San Leandro to submit an application for this exciting opportunity,” stated Mayor Pauline Russo Cutter. “This project represents the first major residential development under the City’s visionary 2007 Downtown Transit Oriented Development Strategy and will complement the adjacent 115-unit Marea Alta affordable rental housing development that was completed last year. This project demonstrates our City’s ongoing commitment to helping our seniors find affordable housing opportunities in what has become an extremely challenging market.”
Starting March 12, interested applicants may obtain an application online at http://www.bridgehousing.com/properties/slsenior or by visiting the BRIDGE Housing’s leasing office at 13939 East 14th Street, Suite 190, San Leandro, 94578 on Mondays through Fridays from 9 am to 5 pm. The leasing office phone number is 510-351-1063. The leasing office will not open prior to March 12. All applications received by the March 23 deadline will then be randomly ordered for the lottery selection.
La Vereda represents the second phase of BRIDGE Housing’s 200-unit downtown transit-oriented development. Phase 1, called Marea Alta, was completed and fully leased in 2017 and has 115 affordable rental units, underground resident and BART parking, and a ground floor child care center that is anticipated to begin construction in 2018. La Vereda is estimated to complete construction in Summer 2018 and to be fully leased up to qualified tenants by Fall 2018.
