5:30 PMNational Night Out

Join members of your community, the San Leandro Police Department, and the Alameda County Fire Department in the 34rd Annual National Night Out (NNO), sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch. Last year’s National Night Out campaign involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 16,000 communities. In all, it is estimated that in 2016 over 38 million neighbors participated in “American’s Night Out Against Crime.” NNO is designed to: Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; Generate support for, and participation in, Neighborhood Watch Programs and other anti-crime efforts; Strengthen neighborhood spirit and Police/Community relations; and Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are fighting back against crime.

The National Association of Town Watch was established in 1981 as a nonprofit, crime prevention organization. The first National Night Out was introduced in 1984. San Leandro has a long history of participating in National Night Out. For more than 20 years members of the San Leandro Police Department have been visiting neighborhood activities throughout the City. In 2016, 52 neighborhood events took place. We would like to encourage members of the community to participate in the 2017 National Night Out.

If your neighborhood, business or homeowner association is planning something special on August 1st, members of the Police Department would like to stop by to introduce themselves between the hours of 5:30 and 8:30 p.m.
