General Election Information

 The Clerk's Office is responsible for the conduct of municipal elections. We provide nomination packets and general guidelines to those candidates interested in running for office. We accept all nomination packet filings and submit to the Alameda County Registrar of Voters. The next General Municipal Election for the City will be held on November 6, 2018.  The offices of Mayor and City Council Districts 1, 3 and 5 are up for election.  See the San Leandro Council District Map for Council District locations.

Nomination Period

The candidate nomination period opens on Monday, July 16, 2018 and closes on Friday, August 10, 2018. If an incumbent does not file nomination papers by 5:00 PM on Friday, August 10, 2018, the nomination period will be extended until Wednesday, August 15, 2018.

Review these filings for questions about who is contributing money, who is receiving money, and how it is being spent.  Use the Public Access Portal to research campaign contributions and expenditures, review campaign statements filed by candidates and examine a committee‘s filing history. 2018 City of San Leandro Candidate Information Click here to learn more about running for the City Council or use the navigation bar at the left for more election information. California Fair Political Practices Commission

The FPPC enforces California laws related to campaign financing, financial conflicts of interest, and gifts given to public officials and candidates under the Political Reform Act.  The FPPC also provides written advice to public agencies, candidates and officials regarding Political Reform Act requirements. The FPPC's advice line is 1-866-ASK-FPPC (1-866-275-3772) or advice@fppc.ca.gov

Alameda County Registrar of Voters

The Registrar of Voters (ROV) is the County Elections Official and conducts all federal, state, county, municipal, school district and special district elections. The ROV is also responsible for voter registration, outreach and education.

State of California Secretary of State Elections Division

The Elections  Division of the California Secretary of State oversees all elections within California. The Elections Division certifies voting equipment, ensures election allows and campaign disclosure requirements are enforced, maintains a database of all California registered voters, tracks and certifies ballot initiatives, compiles elections returns, certifies election results, and promotes voter registration and participation.
