Town Hall Meetings Scheduled to Discuss the Boat Harbor Basin

The City is working with Cal-Coast Development, master developer, and a 33-member Shoreline Development Citizens Advisory Committee to develop a master plan for an approximately 40-acre opportunity site at the San Leandro Shoreline.  A Discussion Plan has been created and can be found here. No formal recommendation for development has been made to the City Council.

While the City remains hopeful that future development can support the retention of a reconfigured boat harbor, as no source of funding has been identified for future dredging or transfer of the dredged materials,  the City is exploring alternatives for the boat harbor basin. A consultant team has been retained to identify three alternatives. Town Hall meetings have been scheduled to provide the community an update on the Shoreline Development project to date and gain input on alternatives for the boat harbor basin.  The study includes the following assumptions:

  • Boating is not precluded as a future use – at a minimum the desire is to maintain access for non-motorized vessels and/or those vessels with a low draft;
  • Boat launch to remain viable for as long as possible;
  • Future uses of basin shall be aesthetically attractive to the public and fit in with existing and planned surrounding shoreline area uses;
  • The alternatives should, to the maximum extent feasible, provide public access to water-related activities.

Please plan to attend a Town Hall meetings and share your ideas.  The same information will be covered at both meetings so you need only attend one.

  • Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at 7pm at the Main Library Dave Karp Room
  • Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at 7pm at the Marina Community Center
