About the Friends

Gift Shop

Friends Gift Shop, located in the Main Library Lobby, is sponsored and operated by the Friends.  The gift shop is a labor of love by Friends volunteers. Find one-of-a-kind gifts for all ages – from fine unique gift items for the connoisseurs, to a wide selection of fun things for the kids. For more information, including hours of operation, call (510) 577-3985.

BOOKtique

The new BOOKtique bookstore, located in the Main Library Lobby, is sponsored and operated by the Friends. The BOOKtique sells high-quality donated books and other items at very reasonable prices. The books are new, “like-new,” “gently used,” collectibles, or rare, but the store is brand NEW! Volunteers continue to stock the shelves with fiction, nonfiction, biographies, children’s books, music CDs, cookbooks, and paperbacks galore. These books have been hand-selected as the best and the brightest of all donations. Proceeds from the funds raised via the BOOKtique will be used to support the San Leandro Public Library materials fund, library programming, the Summer Reading Program, and cultural and educational events.

The BOOKtique is open Monday through Friday, 11 am to 4 pm, Saturdays 1-4 pm, and a few evenings depending on availability of volunteer staff. For additional information, call (510) 577-3941. To volunteer in the BOOKtique call (510) 577-3947.

Book Sales

In addition to the new bookstore, the Friends will continue to hold their “big” book sales biannually at the Main Library, in April and October. If you've been to one of the Friends of the Library book sales in the past, you know we have thousands of wonderful used books from which to choose, including like-new paperbacks, hardbacks, children's books, media, magazines, biographies, cookbooks, and more! Don't forget, only Friends of the Library members get to attend the first two hours of the sale to get the best selections! For more information about the next Big Book Sale, call the (510) 577-3941.
