Children's Services Children's Service is a top priority at the San Leandro Public Library. Our pre-school story hours draw hundreds of kids each week to the library. The staff incorporates reading readiness, early childhood education, literary themes, and arts & crafts to help stimulate and promote pre-school learning. The annual Summer Reading Program, which draws over 4,000 students each year, instills a love for reading. The program reinforces reading, writing, math, and critical thinking skills. The staff takes ideas, combines it with creativity to produce unique and original programming. Our high quality children's programs offer cultural enrichment, artistic exposure, diverse ethnic and multi-cultural themes, which foster a love for reading and learning. The staff works closely with all local schools to supplement and enhance curriculum material. The library also offers occasional monthly programs, such as the Xtreme Readers reading club and Internet workshops for youth.
