YOUTH ADVISORY COUNCIL (YAC)
Mission
Statement
(adopted April 14, 1997)
As a reflection of San Leandro’s diversity, the Youth Advisory Commission is
dedicated to working with the City Council to promote awareness, safety, and involvement among
youth. It is our mission to ensure that youth needs and interests are seriously considered in
crucial decisions that affect the entire community. To achieve this, the YAC will serve as a
link between the City Council and San Leandro’s young people by working to build consensus on
contemporary issues of importance and to make sure that this consensus is heard.
Description
The YAC consists of twenty-one members who are appointed by the City Council. The
YAC Commission meets at City Hall on the 2nd and the 4th Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m.
to discuss current local events involving our teens, to plan up-coming youth events, and, or to
complete special assignments given to them by the City Council.
Requirements:
1. Resident of the City of
San Leandro
2. Youth must be in the 9th
through 12th grade
3. Able to commit six to
eight hours per month to meetings and project involvement
